The national festival of Assam, Bihu Festival 2019 is celebrated thrice in a year, 3 categories of Bihu named as Magh Bihu, Bohag Bihu and Kongali Bihu.
Bihu is the National Cultural Festival of Assam, the origin of the term from Sanskrit word means ‘Vishu’.
It is celebrated by the locals in Assam irrespective of caste, creed and beliefs. There are three different kinds of Bihu festival celebrated by Assamese that is Bohaag Bihu in the middle of April month, Maagh Bihu in the middle of January month and Kaati Bihu in the middle of October month.
Bohag Bihu or Rangoli Bihu is a seven-day long festival celebrates from 15th of April and goes on till 21st of April. This time of the year is when farmers start ploughing their fields.
Kongali Bihu is celebrated in mid of October. Generally, this is the time when the paddy fields are in the growing stage. The Assamese people pray for the growth of the crop.
Magh Bihu is celebrated in the month of January to mark the end of the harvest season.
Out of these three, Bohag Bihu is important.
