Vasant Panchami / Basant Panchami is a popular Indian harvest festival celebrated every year on the fifth day (Panchami Tithi) of the Hindu month Magh. The festival symbols the end of winter and the beginning of spring. During these days, local peoples worship Goddess Saraswati.
The color yellow is connected with Vasant Panchami, which is representing the fields of mustard which is a common spectacle in the Punjab and Haryana regions at this time. Local peoples wear bright yellow clothes and prepare the Sweets with a yellow hue like meeth chawal, sweetened rice, flavored with saffron and distribute with each other.
Children start their education on this day. And also, donate books and literary material to poor peoples. Kite flying is a custom act accompanying this festival which indicates freedom and enjoyment.
