Onam is the most popular harvest festival in Kerala, which is celebrated from 30th August - 2nd September, 2020.
Onam is the biggest traditional harvest festival of Kerala which falls during the Malayalam month of Chingam (which usually falls in August or September) and marks the annual homecoming of the legend King Mahabali.
The people of Kerala clean their homes, and make elaborate floral displays called Pookkalam on the ground as a carpet to welcome Bali on his annual visit. Onam celebration lasts over 10 days beginning on Atham day. There are four main days of Onam. The most important day of Onam is 2nd day, known as Thiru Onam or Thiruvonam which will be celebrated on August 31st, 2020. The major form of classical Indian dance, Kathakali is performing on these days. Other events like boxing competitions, Thallu (a martial art of Kerala) and snake-boat races which are held at Champakulam, Aranmula, and Kottayam, florals, colorful art, food and traditional clothing.
